A self-taught coder and designer, Gurman holds a Master's in Journalism from Columbia University, New York. She is extremely passionate about using data, visuals and code to craft narratives at local, national, international news outlets and non-profit organisations. Having spent six years in newsrooms such as Reuters in Singapore, the Hindustan Times in Delhi, and the Palm Beach Post and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in the United States, Gurman went independent in 2021. Since then, Gurman has trained over 750 people in data journalism and visualisation, and has helped several non-profit organisations communicate their data-driven research better.

A passionate data visualization storyteller, Amit writes, teaches, consults and mentors on data visualisation, data science and data-stories for his own company - Narrativeviz Consulting. Over the last decade, Amit worked as a management consultant - first with AT Kearney in India and then with Booz & Company (now Strategy&) in Europe.
Amit is currently experimenting with data visualization, teaching, djembe, freelance consulting, coding, and cooking in a tandoor.
