Anudeep's Design Collective story

TL;DR

Anudeep, a Product Designer looking to re-enter the field, discovered ownpath through a friend on X. The Fellowship's focus on real-world projects and accountability helped him upskill, gain confidence, and form valuable friendships. As a part of our Design Collective, Anudeep got the opportunity to work with Hero MotoCorp’s EV venture as a product designer!

My journey since joining the Design Collective and getting to work as a Product Designer at Hero MotoCorp has been a roller coaster – challenging at times, but weekly sessions with the mentors proved invaluable in overcoming challenges and collaborating better.

Here’s his story:

I discovered ownpath through a friend who mentioned it on X (formerly Twitter), talking about how fellows were landing roles. I was hesitant to apply without a ready portfolio, but after a chat and sending in my application, I took a leap of faith. Before taking a break, I was a UX designer looking for guidance to ease back into the field. I primarily wanted to upskill and hold myself accountable when restarting my career. ownpath's holistic approach, particularly its focus on real-world industry projects, clear structure, truly resonated with me.

During the fellowship, I not only made amazing friends like Yasir and Surya, but we also got a chance to work on an industry project with Jiva. The feedback in the sessions was specific, and I learned to collaborate better and develop consistency. The sessions that stood out for me were Shreya's visual design session, Akshay's interaction design session, and Mahima's session on usability testing. These sessions transformed my perspectives and approach.

This transition was a big deal for me. It boosted my confidence, improved my teamwork skills, and prepared me to handle real-world design challenges. It was a game-changer because, at first, I struggled to figure out suitable problems to work on independently. ownpath's emphasis on accountability and mentorship helped me overcome them, making my experience much richer!

The Collective introduced me to the EV landscape, bringing a fresh perspective to my work. Interacting with automobile designers gave me insights I hadn't come across before. The challenges of getting around in Bangalore highlighted the need for a more practical solution.

Looking back, my time with ownpath has been a truly enriching. It gave me confidence, enhanced my teamwork skills, and opened my eyes to different aspects of the design field. ownpath's emphasis on accountability and mentorship helped me overcome these challenges, making my learning experience much richer.
