Role overview:We are seeking an exceptional design leader to manage and guide a team of talented multidisciplinary designers at one of the nation's fastest-growing tech startups. Your mission will be to elevate our design team to become the best in the industry.
Responsibilities
- Team and Project Management:
- Lead a team of product, visual, and communication designers, and researchers.
- Manage design projects, resolve blockers, and ensure outputs meet business goals, deadlines, and quality standards.
- Product Direction and Design Projects:
- Participate in ideation, planning, and prioritisation of products and features.
- Identify new directions to simplify payments and finance.
- Strategise, prioritise, and drive design-led projects. Extend and build design systems.
- Team Development:
- Mentor and guide the team, helping them grow both soft and hard skills.
- Define career paths, identify opportunities, and support the team in achieving their best work.
- Quality and Process Improvement:
- Set high-quality standards and help product teams achieve them without impacting velocity.
- Iterate and improve design processes, introduce best practices, and incorporate user-centered design backed by data.
- Create frameworks and guidelines for efficient delivery.
- Conduct design reviews, facilitate design sprints, workshops, and brainstorming sessions.
- Prioritise research and design improvements in a fast-paced environment.
- Share engineering principles to guide design from an engineering perspective.
Requirements
1. 6+ years in design, including 2+ years in a leadership role in fast-paced environments, preferably tech startups.
2. Strong skills in managing projects, prioritising tasks, and leading multidisciplinary design teams.
3. Proven ability to drive design projects, extend/build design systems, and uphold high-quality standards.
4. Experience in mentoring and developing team members’ skills and career paths.
5. Strong understanding of user-centred design principles, using user behaviour and data to inform decisions.
6. Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
